How much does a small business website cost in 2026?
Ask five people what a website costs and you’ll get five answers, because they’re describing five different things. Here is what each option usually costs for a small business in 2026, what is included, and what people forget to count.
Option 1: an agency or freelancer
An agency designs and builds a site for you, usually after a few meetings. In the United States a small business site from an agency typically costs $5,000 to $15,000 upfront and takes 6 to 12 weeks. In the UAE, a typical small business site costs around AED 2,500 to 6,000, and in Turkey around 18,000 to 35,000 TL, often with a yearly renewal fee for hosting and maintenance on top.
You get a custom design and someone else does the work. The catch is the upfront bill, the wait, and what happens later: changes are often billed by the hour.
Option 2: build it yourself
Website builders are cheap on paper. Wix plans cost around $17 to $39 a month and Squarespace around $19 to $99 a month on annual billing. Some hosting companies advertise a few dollars a month, but those prices usually need a multi-year commitment and rise at renewal.
The real cost is your time. Choosing a template, writing every page, finding photos, fixing the mobile layout and keeping it up to date can take weeks of evenings. And the result depends on your design skills.
Option 3: a done-for-you subscription
A newer option: a service designs, builds and hosts your site for a monthly fee. Many charge $99 to $199 a month, and some add a setup fee or a 12-month contract. altoda starts at $49 a month with no setup fee and no contract.
What people forget to count
| Cost | Typical amount | Included with altoda? |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | A few dollars to around $20 a year for most .com domains | No, you own it |
| Hosting and SSL | Often bundled with builders; separate with agencies | Yes |
| Business email | Charged per user per month by Google or Microsoft | No; setup is a Business add-on |
| Photos | Free if you take them, more if you hire a photographer | You provide them |
| Changes after launch | Hourly with many agencies | Text and photos free; design changes by request |
So what should you pay?
Add up the first year, not the first month. An agency site costs thousands before it earns anything. A builder is cheap if your time is free. A done-for-you subscription spreads the cost and includes the work. For most small businesses, the right answer is the one that gets a good site live soon and keeps it looking after itself.
Prices are typical ranges we found in September 2026 and change often. Check current prices before you decide.
