Getting started

What should a small business website include?

Include

A small business website has one job: help the right people decide to contact you. It doesn’t need to be big. It needs to answer the questions a new customer has, quickly, on a phone. Here are the seven things we put on every site, and a checklist to use before you launch.

1. A first screen that says what you do

In one sentence, say what you do and where. “Family dentistry in Jumeirah” works better than “Welcome to our website”. Add one clear button, such as Book a visit or Order ahead, and a photo that shows the real place or work.

2. Proof that you’re real

Photos of your space, your team and your work do more than any adjective. Add your address, opening hours and, when you have them, a few genuine reviews with names.

3. What you offer, and what it costs

List your main services or products. If prices vary, give “from” prices. People who can see a price are far more likely to get in touch than people who have to ask.

4. One clear action

Decide the one thing you want visitors to do, and make it easy everywhere: book, call, order, or send a message. Too many choices means fewer people choose anything.

5. Contact details everywhere

Phone, email, address and a map. Put them in the footer of every page and make the phone number tappable on mobile.

6. Built for phones first

Most visitors will see your site on a phone. Text should be readable without zooming, buttons easy to tap and pages quick to load.

7. The basics that help search

Each page needs a clear title and description, and your business should have a Google Business Profile that links to your site. These small things help people find you when they search nearby.

  • There is one main button, and it works
  • Real photos of your place, team or work
  • Services and at least “from” prices

  • Checked on a phone, not just a laptop
  • Page titles and a Google Business Profile
